I have the honour to inform you with re-
ference to your Circular Despatch of the 27th.March that the
Chamber of Commerce, who were consulted in the matter, have ex-
pressed the opinion that the proposed changes in the French
Customs Tariff would not have much effect upon articles of
import in HongKong. I do not therefore consider it necessary
to request you to make any representations to the French Go-
vernment on behalf of this Colony.
